Foodbank Victoria has set a challenge for corporate Victoria: to get their work mates together and take on the Hunger Ride, an exclusive 185-kilometre cycling challenge through some of Victoria’s most beautiful and difficult countryside. It takes a lot to facilitate a cycling event of this nature and we couldn’t do it without the help of our generous sponsors. We are so pleased to announce that Bennelong Funds Management has come on board as our Major Sponsor, ensuring that we can continue to stage the Hunger Ride and raise crucial funds for vulnerable Victorians - many of whom are seeking help for the first time due to the impact of the pandemic.
The Hunger Ride provides riders an opportunity to be a part of a fully supported peloton, riding side by side with well-known personalities such as Tour de France Green Jersey winner Baden Cooke, voice of cycling Matt Keenan and our very own Foodbank Victoria Ambassador Hamish Blake, who says he’s “shaved up and confident of my ability to return from Sydney to defend my title of highest fundraiser”.
CEO Dave McNamara acknowledges that families are still reeling from the economic impacts and disruption of COVID-19, and many Victorians are finding themselves in situations they never anticipated, unable to put food on the table. Funds raised through this event will help Foodbank continue to support the most vulnerable and those struggling to put food on the table.
“As a keen cyclist for over a decade, I have been honoured to turn my passion into an event that works to break this cycle of hunger. I have been lucky to witness some of Australia’s most beautiful riding country and had the pleasure of meeting some truly incredible and generous people – and this is what the Hunger Ride is all about. To be able to partner with an organisation of the calibre of Bennelong Funds Management is the icing on the cake,” said Mr McNamara.
